WIPO: Charting the Future of Creativity and AI

As artificial intelligence (AI) and large language models (LLMs) begin to penetrate all markets, from business to education, there are growing concerns about who owns the rights to ideas and images created by AI. While the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has now become the forefront of protecting creative ideas and human-produced art, its origins stem from before the internet, during the 1960s. As platforms such as ChatGPT create music that rivals that of Billboard's top 100 or recreate Picasso’s most infamous paintings in seconds, WIPO faces the question: Does artificial intelligence have the same Intellectual Property rights as humans? In this committee, delegates will be able to debate the true origins and rights of AI-generated work or whether these creations are even deserving of protections to begin with. Delegates are also encouraged to tackle how legislation must evolve to keep up with these technological advancements, how the creative job market can stay afloat, and, finally, how to protect one of the most valuable aspects of humanity: creativity.
