The Sacred Conclave of the Roman Catholic Church, 17th c.
The selection of the Pope–the Bishop of Rome and spiritual leader of the Roman Catholic Church–is among the most solemn and consequential responsibilities entrusted to the College of Cardinals. Participating in the Sacred Conclave is one of the highest honors within the Church, a role that carries immense spiritual and political responsibility. The future of Catholicism, and its moral and institutional direction, rests in the hands of this sacred assembly.
With the notion of great service and the utmost magnitude for the universal church and all those who practice, it is imperative to ensure an optimal selection for the next leader of the most prominent historical entity. With the divine doctrine being the driving force of the status quo that must be upheld through the decisions made by the College of Cardinals in the Sacred Conclave in selecting the new pope, delegates must ensure that all political, social, and cultural factors are taken into account for the final decision made. Whether chosen unanimously or by the narrowest of margins, the new Pope must emerge as a symbol of unity, capable of preserving the legacy and influence of the Universal Church.
This historical simulation is set in the 17th century, a time of religious upheaval, dynastic conflict, and shifting alliances. However, while grounded in the context of the Roman Catholic Church, this committee will focus primarily on the sociopolitical challenges of the Vatican, rather than religious doctrine or theological debate. Delegates of all faiths and backgrounds are welcome and encouraged to participate. The emphasis will be on navigating the political consequences of a papal power vacuum, managing institutional power struggles, and defining the Church’s role in an evolving European landscape.
Delegates must balance faith, politics, and pragmatism to ensure the continuity–and credibility–of one of history’s most enduring institutions. The eyes of Christendom are upon you.
